Maintaining our Cathedral for Generations to Come
Since its formation, the Foundation has led numerous vital projects to preserve and restore the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, supporting its mission to remain a cornerstone of the Richmond community.
The Foundation’s Work
Current Needs
Cathedral Interior Painting, Ceiling and Wall Repair, and Art Restoration.
Just as the Sistine Chapel’s magnificent ceiling was restored to preserve its beauty and integrity, our Cathedral requires the careful cleaning and painting of its interior walls and ceiling, along with the restoration of its historic artwork to maintain its architectural splendor.
Underway
Illuminating the Cathedral. Cove and ledge uplighting throughout the cathedral will enhance the beauty of the ceiling and showcase our newly installed Gallery Pipe Organ. As an added benefit, the transition from incandescent to LED lighting will reduce lighting and maintenance costs while also saving energy.
Completed
Baptismal Font. The Cathedral’s restored baptismal font was blessed during the inauguration of the Jubilee Year of Hope in December 2024.
The Gallery, Choir, and Continuo Pipe Organs. Thanks to the generosity of hundreds of donors, the Gallery, Choir, and Continuo pipe organs were built and installed to enrich the Cathedral’s liturgical music.
Bell Tower Roof Renovation Project. Updating the Bell Tower roof for safety and to ensure its timeless presence over our church and community.
Installation of ADA Compliant Restrooms. Making the Cathedral more accessible to all.
